Golf Course Operations and Certification

Island Coastal Ventures will also adopt a framework of environmental Best Operating Practices (BOP’s) to govern the future maintenance of the course - based on the principles and intents expressed in a 1996 guidebook developed by the Fraser River Action Plan in partnership with Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) entitled, “Greening Your BC Golf Course – A Guide to Environmental Management” – that will mitigate future environmental impacts from the overuse of pesticides, herbicides, and fertilisers. Such BOPs will include adoption of the following measures:

  • Integrated pest management strategies;
  • Spill containment, waste materials handling, and pesticide handling / storage protocols; and
  • Continued runoff quality monitoring to ensure compliance with environmental guidelines for the protection of aquatic life.

Periodic independent certification of the upgraded golf course’s operating / maintenance procedures and environmental performance will be sought through the Audubon Co-operative Sanctuary Program for Golf Courses (ACSPGC) which will ensure that the visionary site management protocols being envisaged as part of this rezoning application will be implemented in future.
