CVLT ScoreCard
The Comox Valley Land Trust (CVLT) has developed a Score Card process, whereby development proponents can pay a fee to have the Land Trust evaluate their project on the basis of 95 sustainability criteria. The CVLT’s Score Card process is a very valuable service to the community because is serves as a third party evaluation tool to test the ‘level of green’ for a given project. If a project claims to be green and sustainable in the Comox Valley, it should be able to stand by its claim – and one way to prove it is to run the project through the CVLT Score Card process.
Longlands claims to be walking the talk on sustainability. So how did we fare?
The Longlands Project was the first official project in the Comox Valley to step forward, pay the fee, and have the CVLT run their Score Card process. We are delighted to report that the Longlands project received an 82% on the CVLT Score Card! It is
important to keep in mind that Longlands did not score an ‘A+’ because that would require full restoration of a property to pre-settlement condition with no buildings or other disturbances. According to Jack Minard, Executive Director of the CVLT, an 82% is an exceptional score for a development project to receive. Once Longlands firms up environmental protection measures we are proposing through parkland dedication and/or covenants, the score will go up even higher! Contact the CVLT to find out more about their Score Card process.
