First Nations

Longlands has established an ongoing dialogue with the K'ómoks First Nation Band Manager and staff, dating back to February, 2009. In our initial meeting with the band, it was stressed that Longlands is committed to working with the band, and ensuring that the band had full access to project representatives and documentation. Since our initial contact with the K'ómoks First Nation, we delivered a complete application package on October 1, 2009 to their band office, along with follow up summary documents and promotional materials for the project, to ensure that they are fully aware the Longlands proposal and any affects the project might have on land claims or other first nations interests.

Longlands has been asked by the K'ómoks First Nation to draft a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the project and the band that will serve as the basis for ongoing negotiation over first nations’ involvement in the Longlands Project. We are also seeking to engage the K'ómoks First Nation in archaeological work still to be completed on the Longlands site.

We are excited to continue the dialogue with the band, and look forward to negotiating partnership opportunities that will benefit both parties.

The Longlands Development Project has been placed 'on hold' by the Comox Valley Regional District, pending more resolution on the draft Comox Valley Regional Growth Strategy.  Island Coastal Ventures Ltd. will seek to go before the EASC again in late spring/early summer of 2010.  In the interim, ICV will evaluate its current investment security and is likely to make a public statement soon on it's long term intent for continued investment in the Comox Valley.
