Community
Longlands is committed to working in an open and transparent manner with residents, stakeholders and leaders in the Comox Valley to build a project that, with sustainability in mind, benefits the greater community. At Longlands, we believe that development represents an opportunity to pursue community prosperity, but prosperity for the long term. Long term prosperity is influenced by the efficiency of the communities that we live in, the protection of the environment that gives us our food and water and the rewarding relationships that we build amoung each other, but it also means ensuring that we seek this prosperity without compromising future generations’ abilities to do the same.
At Longlands, we have embraced the notion that in order for communities to truly prosper in the long run, the systems upon which people depend must remain healthy – ecology, commerce and society. If we sacrifice ecology for the good of commerce and society, we will eventually face hardship and loss of value. If we sacrifice commerce for the good of ecology and society, we will be equally remiss. Striking a balance amoung the pillars of sustainability is at the heart of the Longlands project, and we believe that inclusive and constructive dialogue is the only manner in which to accomplish balance.
We would encourage you, as a member of the Comox Valley community, to work with us to better understand and achieve this balance. Give us feedback on our blog page, attend public meetings that we host, contact the Brooklyn Creek Watershed Society to find out about the fish in Brooklyn Creek, and/or tell your elected officials that you are interested in seeing development projects that provide a measured balance of economic development and environmental protection. These are all proactive ways that you can engage with us in defining the future shape of the Comox Valley!
The Community links on this webpage give some background information on the conversations that have already occurred on the Longlands project. They also provide a little bit more background on the community setting and provide links to other relevant websites. We hope you find this information useful in building a deeper understanding of your community and in demonstrating how Longlands might be a great neighbour and community member.
